2 Must-Do Things Upon Waking Up

When you wake up in the morning and you know that today will be hectic, and you’ll need to bring your A Game. I’d strongly encourage you to do these 2 things to ensure a successful start for the day…

Don’t we all love getting up at 5am? That awesome feeling when the alarm goes off and you realize it’s time to get up and about?

To be honest, for me, this early bird schedule isn’t challenging anymore because of my PASSION for what I do!

It might be the same for you because when you love what you do, you don’t care about the time. In fact, every evening you might even look forward to sleep because of that desire to wake up the next day and keep building your dreams!

Besides waking up with the right attitude, here are two things you must do each morning in order to have the best possible start for the day and to ensure peak performance.

1) Eat a Protein + Fat based breakfast within 30 minutes of waking up
2) Pack your lunch / mid morning meal to take to work

Why? When you eat a protein and fat based breakfast, it gives you a steady energy supply for the whole day. On the opposite, when you have toast or cereal, you’ll feel ok for a while but you’re very likely to crash at lunch time! With a big day ahead, you can’t afford that.
Also, when you take your lunch to work, you can focus more on making things happen and not on where you can get something healthy to eat. For instance, take chicken breast and fresh veggies and some fruit to keep your energy levels up. Minimize bread, rice, pasta and sweets in order to stay mentally clear.

Regardless of your position in the company, I’d strongly encourage you to create these 2 habits in your life from tomorrow morning onwards. As it requires 21 days to make or break a habit, try these 2 steps for the next 3 weeks and feel the improvements on your performance, especially during the first half of the day.

So to recap:
1) Eat your Protein + Fat breakfast within 30min of waking
2) Pack your lunch/brunch to ensure yourself a healthy and on-time meal
3) Get started with these steps tomorrow morning!

PS. I get asked how I get up at 5am almost every morning, so here is my simple strategy: I trick myself to think that I’m back in the army barracks or in a tent in the middle of a combat rehearsal. When the siren went off, we had 6 minutes to get dressed, brush our teeth, shower (good luck) and be ready to move. Now when my alarm goes off, I give myself some slack and grant myself 30 seconds to be dressed and out the bedroom ready to cook breakfast. In other words, I’m too busy to think about how I tired I am. It is simple but does the trick every single morning for me.
